Our Reach-the-World Visiting
Professor Program gives clinicians and researchers in developing countries the opportunity to engage face-to-face and learn
from ISTH–sponsored Visiting Professors who are recognized leaders in the fields
of thrombosis and haemostasis.
Through direct interaction, courses
and lectures, Visiting Professors work with host institutes in developing
countries to tailor a location-specific program featuring up-to-date insights and information on how to improve
the lives of patients with thrombotic and bleeding disorders.
Principles of the Program
The ISTH will:
- Provide
support for airfare, accommodations and living expenses during the Visiting
Professor’s tenure at a host institute for up to 2 weeks
Host institutes are expected to:
- Build a
program that makes the best use of the visit
- Cover all
other expenses of Visiting Professors, such as local transportation
- Invite their staff
and staff in the surrounding region to attend appropriate courses and/or
lectures
- Promote the program,
clearly indicating in all documents that this is an ISTH-sponsored Visiting
Professor program
- Submit a comprehensive
report describing and evaluating the visit to the ISTH Education & Outreach committee
Visiting Professors are
expected to:
- Give an intensive course or a series
of lectures on selected topic/s determined with the host institute for a minimum
of 10-14 hours over four to seven days
- Participate in
Grand Rounds and/or all-faculty plenary lectures
- Schedule meetings
with research fellows to review their data (as appropriate)
- Discuss laboratory
methods (as applicable)
- Meet with the Dean
and/or Director of the host institute, as well as health officials of the host
country (if possible and as appropriate)
- Submit a comprehensive
report describing and evaluating the visit to the ISTH Education and Outreach Committee

A subcommittee appointed by the ISTH
Education and Outreach Committee evaluates applications made by host
