To make membership and education more accessible for clinicians, researchers and educators in the developing world and in line with its mission, the ISTH offers a “Reach-the-World” program. The main objective is to increase the involvement in the ISTH and worldwide thrombosis and haemostasis community.
The ISTH Reach-the-World program consists of the following benefits/advantages:
- Greatly reduced ISTH membership fee
- Special deeply discounted registration fees at ISTH Congresses and SSC Meetings
- Eligibility for ISTH travel awards to ISTH Congresses and SSC Meetings
- Access to the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH)online
- Access to all other ISTH regular membership benefits
- Full voting rights
Eligibility for this program is based on the World bank criteria for the developing world, with individuals from other than 'high-income countries' being eligible (see for the list of countries: http://data.worldbank.org/about/country-classifications/country-and-lending-groups#Low_income).
There is only one membership differences with the ISTH Regular Membership: RtW-members do not receive the paper copy of JTH.
ISTH does offer a special hardcopy journal donation program where Regular Members may donate their hardcopy journals to RtW members. Those RtW Members wishing to receive a hardcopy of the Society’s journal should please contact the ISTH HQs and indicate their interest so that the Society may match the donations.
The Society believes that the greatly reduced membership fee and the associated benefits will be affordable to many scientists and physicians in most countries of the world. However, in case of extreme hardship interested and qualified professionals may write to Secretary General of the Society, explaining their situation and requesting that the membership may be waived.
We hope that this initiative will allow many colleagues in resource-poor countries and regions of the globe to become active members of the global thrombosis and haemostasis community and will have unprecedented access to education and scientific information that will allow them to better care for patients.
