ISTH Declares October 13 World Thrombosis Day – Please Join Us in Raising Awareness
Thursday, March 6, 2014
We would like to inform you about an important activity and upcoming global announcement.
Dear colleagues and friends,
As a member of the global thrombosis and hemostasis community, you are well aware that thrombosis is a leading cause of death around the world. Yet, this fact is not widely known.
Most people have little or no understanding about the causes and effects of thrombosis, and how it can be prevented. Regrettably, even among medical professionals there are significant gaps in awareness and knowledge that - if improved - could lead to more effective use of preventive measures and improved quality of diagnosis and treatment.
To address this issue, and take responsibility as the leading worldwide society in this field, the ISTH is very pleased to share with you that within the next two weeks, we will publicly and globally announce the launch and declare October 13 as World Thrombosis Day to increase the awareness of thrombosis among the general public, medical professionals and policy makers.
World Thrombosis Day will provide the opportunity for multiple stakeholders around the world to come and work together in a coordinated effort to reduce the burden of disease through the promotion of research, communication, action, education and evaluation.
We are particularly proud and pleased that we can already report pledges from 20 thrombosis, hematology and/or cardiovascular organizations in over 15 countries around the world to collaborate in and become active around World Thrombosis Day.
Please see more detailed information at www.isth.org/?wtd.
Over the next few months, we will keep you abreast of the developments and planned activities and of course continue to invite all ISTH members and those with a personal or professional interest in this topic to actively become engaged in World Thrombosis Day activities.
Do you have any comments for us? We would love to hear your feedback by contacting us at email@example.com.
World Thrombosis Day is an extension of the long and dedicated history of ISTH in advancing the field of bleeding and clotting disorders and an important step to reducing a significant global health burden.
Thank you for your active support in this important public health initiative.
