Thanks to the generosity of Regular members of the ISTH, Reach-the-World (RTW) members in developing countries are now able to access the print version of the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH). Through a special ISTH initiative, almost 200 Regular members have offered to donate their print copy of JTH to a RTW member, and thus far, more than 35 RTW members are receiving donated copies.
Several RTW members have sent emails to express their gratitude to their colleagues who donated their print journals. “Thank you very much!” said Cecilia, a RTW member in Uruguay. “It is very important for us to count on your support! The JTH will be used for teaching and expand our knowledge on thrombosis and hemostasis.”
Andrea, another RTW member in Uruguay, explained that the online version of JTH is not as helpful for her. “Sometimes we don`t have internet service, and it’s impossible to read some articles when we are at work,” she said. “So when we go back home, where we have internet, we read, but we don`t have enough time to do it. I teach at the University, and I believe we will use [the print copies].”
Similarly, Inolyn, a RTW member from Indonesia, plans to share her donated print journal with colleagues in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Indonesia. “This JTH will be very valuable for us to be informed with the latest research in hemostasis and thrombosis,” she said.
Redirecting the delivery of print journals is easy for the ISTH, and the service provides individuals with important access to information that helps them build their knowledge and career. Additionally, the program furthers the ISTH mission of advancing the understanding, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of thrombotic and bleeding disorders.
