The ISTH Education Committee has awarded three ISTH members with Reach-the-World Fellowships. Kannan Meganathan of India as well as Zhenping Chen and Chaojun Tang of China were selected for the program, which seeks to promote knowledge and expertise in medical care, laboratory methods and research for individuals from developing countries. As part of the program, the Society provides fellows with financial support for travel, accommodation and living expenses for a period of up to four months while they receive advanced training from renowned host institutions.

Kannan Meganathan is currently working as an assistant professor at Central University of Tamil Nadu in India. Thanks to the support of the Reach-the-World Fellowship, he will have the opportunity to work at the Allen and Frances Alder Laboratory of Blood and Vascular Biology at Rockefeller University in New York City, USA. For two months, Meganathan will learn to hone his expertise in basic research, including expression studies.
Zhenping Chen is currently working as a research associate at Beijing Children’s Hospital in China. Thanks to the support of this Fellowship, Chen will have the opportunity to work at the Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California, USA. The four-month training will focus on the expansion of laboratory techniques for establishing a platform of research for the role of oxidative damage as well as the standardization of clinical and diagnostic skills through a clinical trial for children with ITP.
Chaojun Tang is currently working as research associate professor at Soochow University in China. With support of the Fellowship, she will work at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia, USA. For a four month period, Tang will learn the newest techniques in the examination of platelet function as well as computational methods to simulate platelet activation in vivo.
