The World Thrombosis Day (WTD) 2016 campaign was an exciting success, with more partners and engagement around the world than ever before raising awareness about thrombosis on October 13. The 2016 campaign theme, “Know Thrombosis: Keep Life Flowing,” encouraged the general public and healthcare professionals to be knowledgeable about blood clots.
This year, more than 675 partners from 80 countries participated in the campaign, more than double the partners in 2015. Supporters from around the world organized thousands of events and activities, from educational symposiums and free health clinics, to city-wide marathons and themed giveaways. The originality and creativity of WTD 2016 events helped to bolster the campaign’s largest global media footprint, with millions of media impressions and prominent placements in renowned international publications. In addition, Thrombosis and Haemostasis published an article by the WTD Scientific Steering Committee, which calls for the need for VTE risk assessments among hospitalized patients.
The 2016 campaign launched several important new digital assets, including a feature video available in both English and Spanish. New infographics, social media assets, resource materials, and personal stories were also shared. Supporters from around the globe also submitted photos that have been added to the photo gallery and survivor selfie gallery.
An official WTD 2016 Impact Report will be published this December. Special thanks to all WTD partner organizations for their participation, as well as corporate sponsors who generously support the campaign. The dedication of the WTD global community ensures that the WTD call to action continues to echo and be heard around the world.
