ISTH Council Chairman-Elect 2014-2016 Named

The ISTH is pleased to announce the election of Professor Ingrid Pabinger of the Universitätsklinik für Innere Medizin I in Vienna, Austria as its Council Chairman-Elect for 2014-2016. 

Professor Pabinger will serve in the role of Council Secretary for the next two years alongside Council Chairman Professor Nigel Key (Chapel Hill, NC, USA). Professor Pabinger will begin her Council chairmanship at the ISTH SSC 2016 Annual Meeting in Montpellier.

Ingrid Pabinger has been working in the field of thrombosis and haemostasis for more than 20 years with particular clinical and scientific focus on the molecular and biochemical basis, hereditary and acquired thrombosis risk factors, and further bleeding disorders, especially hemophilia and immune thrombocytopenia. She has published in many peer-reviewed journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Blood, Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and others.

She has designed and performed a number of international studies involving several European countries, and her scientific group has cooperated with many renowned centers in the field of thrombosis and hemostasis, such as the Leiden University Medical Center and the UNC Medical School in Chapel Hill and the Scripps Clinic in San Diego.

In addition, she has been extremely active in organizing large meetings in the fields of hematology and thrombosis and hemostasis, and she is Vice-President of the upcoming ISTH Congress in Berlin in 2017. In the ISTH she served as Co-Chairman of the SSC Subcommittee on Protein C and Protein S in the 1980s and 1990s, and since 2011 she has been a Co-Chairman of the SSC Subcommittee on Hemostasis & Malignancy of the ISTH. Since 2007 she has been an Associate Editor of the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis. Before this, she was Associate or Section Editor for other journals, such as The Hematology Journal, Thrombosis Research, and Annals of Haematology.
