The ISTH Council voted and elected Dr. Evan Sadler as the Secretary General of Washington University, in St. Louis, MO, USA, to succeed Bruce Furie at the end of 2014. Until then, a transition of responsibilities shall take place. The new Secretary General shall serve until the Council meeting at the ISTH SSC 2018 Meeting.
Evan Sadler serves as chief of the Division of Hematology at the Washington University School of Medicine. His clinical interest is in hemostasis, and his research interests include blood coagulation, serine proteases and von Willebrand disease. At Washington University, Dr. Sadler has led the Division of Hematology since 2009. His research has included extensive study on von Willebrand Disease. His laboratory studies the pathophysiology of hemorrhage and thrombosis, focusing on the mechanisms that promote and inhibit platelet adhesion. This includes investigating the mechanism of VWF multimer assembly and the regulation of VWF binding to its receptors on platelets.
Dr. Sadler has held many past roles with the Society including serving on the JTH Editorial Board, the SSC subcommittee on von Willebrand Factor, ISTH Council and many scientific committees for past ISTH Congresses.
