Five members will be elected to the Council as the Class of 2022, including four at-large seats and one seat designated for a member from a Reach-the-World country.

Candidates should have the willingness and interest to be actively engaged in and give our Society’s interest and activities priority attention.
Any active member of the Society who is not currently serving as a Council member. While members cannot be elected to consecutive terms, previous members of Council may be elected to a second term but are not eligible for a third term.
Please note that candidates for the Reach-the-World designated seat must meet satisfy all of these additional criteria:
Have been a resident in a RtW country for at least the last five (5) years and for fifteen (15) years out of the last twenty-five (25) years
Be a national of the country he/she currently lives in
Must speak/read/write the predominant language of the country as well as the recognized language of scientific and medical communications in the country fluently
Must not have any current plans to leave the country and expects to remain a resident in his/her current home country for the Council term.
Unless the elected RtW Councilor moves to a different RtW country, if he/she changes location and moves outside an RtW country for more than one (1) year during his/her term, he/she will have to resign from the Council position.
If the home-country of an RtW Councilor is re-classified during his/her term and no longer considered a “developing country”, there shall be no change.
The Council is the governing body of the ISTH. It authorizes and exercises all of the Society’s corporate powers and oversees its activities.
Council members lead the Society according to the organization’s mission and values. The Council sets the strategy, prioritizes objectives and sets the policy framework for the Society. For more information on the roles and responsibilities of the ISTH Council, please review the ISTH Bylaws.
The ISTH Council is composed of 3 "Classes” of elected representatives who serve staggered six-year terms, as well as officers and ex-officio voting members who are members by virtue of holding another office with the ISTH, as mandated by the Society’s Bylaws.
Selection of Council members is an important privilege and responsibility of all ISTH members!
ISTH is looking for individuals who are recognized contributors to our field and who are willing and able to proactively lead the development of our Society as it plays an increasingly important role as the leading worldwide organization dedicated to the advancement of the understanding, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of thrombotic and bleeding disorders.
ISTH Council members are expected to play a dual role: be ambassadors for their constituencies (scientific and regional) on the ISTH Council while at the same time actively promoting the ISTH, its programs and activities among the worldwide community.

ISTH solicits and encourages nominations for qualified candidates from around the world and with different backgrounds.

Any complete nomination must consist of the following information:
Name and full contact details of the nominee, including if the member is eligible for the Reach-the-World seat
Confirmation of acceptance of the nomination from the nominee
A brief paragraph summarizing the nominee's scientific contributions and commitment to the international thrombosis and hemostasis field
Personal vision statement from the nominee
Name and full contact details of the nominator
Reason for the nomination
Description of personal attributes that makes the nominee a strong candidate
All information must be submitted together in the via the online submission form. Ensure you have gathered all information prior to beginning the beginning submission of the form.
Duplicate nominations for the same candidate will not be considered. Letters or emails seconding a nomination are strongly discouraged.If additional members wish to support a nomination, their names should be added on page 3 of the nomination form.
Nominations will be closed on December 15, 2015.
The current Council members will review all nominations received by December 15, 2015. Considering the make-up of the Council beyond mid-2016 and how candidates will add to the diversity and strength of ISTH’s Council, they will – in a secret vote determine a final ballot which will consist of a minimum of 8 candidates for the at-large seats and 3 candidates for the Reach-the-World dedicated seat, at least twice the number to be elected.
Each final candidate will be contacted by a member of the Nominating Committee prior to finalizing the ballot to reconfirm his/her interest to stand for election and ensure they understand the expectations and commitments required of a Council Member.
The Final Ballot will be available online to all ISTH members for voting by mid- to end of February, 2016. An email with voting instructions will be sent to all members in good standing and eligible to vote.
The election results will be tabulated one month after the opening of the ballot. The four candidates receiving the most votes for the at-large seats as well as the candidate with the highest number of votes for the Reach-the-World seat will be elected, and their terms will begin at the conclusion of the 2016 Council meeting in Montpellier.
