Since its inception, meetings have been a staple of the ISTH. Today, the ISTH hosts or Sponsors the following meetings:
The ISTH Congress takes place every two years (odd years), while the SSC and its scientific subcommittees meet every year. In odd years, SSC Meetings are held jointly with the Congress. Clinicians, researchers, educators, students/trainees, allied healthcare professionals and industry partners attend these events to exchange the latest in scientific innovation and to advance the overall understanding, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of thrombotic and bleeding disorders.
In May of 2016, the ISTH Council announced the Society’s strategic decision to hold our global congress annually formally, starting in 2020. The new annual ISTH congresses will fully incorporate highly valued SSC components, recognizing the value of the SSC’s work and its highly important applications, making them more accessible to the wider community. The congress format will also be shorter and more compact, establishing a contemporary meeting structure. This format aligns with trends in global medical meetings, which indicate that participants and other stakeholders prefer shorter meetings to minimize time away from home and/or work. On a smaller scale, the ISTH hosts regular Advanced Training Courses for trainees as well as experienced professionals looking for an update on the latest training in biological and clinical aspects of hemostasis and thrombosis. In developing countries, the ISTH also works with other national and regional societies to offer ISTH Education Courses customized to the specific scientific and medical needs, cultures and learning styles of target participants.
