Contribute
to the Society! Volunteer for an
ISTH Committee
At the upcoming ISTH SSC 2014 meeting in Milwaukee, the ISTH
Council committees will change the composition of their membership for the 2014
– 2016 term, with several members rotating off the various committees. As part
of the continued desire to involve the wider ISTH membership in the leadership
of the Society, to better reflect the breadth and diversity of ISTH’s
international community, the ISTH is
again calling for the expression of interest to volunteer to serve on ISTH
Council committees.
The following
committees will be accepting new members:
- Education & Outreach
- Ethics
- Finance
- Governance
- Lectures & Awards
- Membership & Communications
- Nominating
- Publications
Deadline
for expressions of interest: Extended to May 23rd.
Responsibilities:
Committees generally meet once a year in person, in
conjunction with the Congress or the SSC Meeting; otherwise committee business
is conducted my email and regularly scheduled tele/videoconferences.
In considering your participation, please note that all
committee members are expected to:
- Align their activities with the mission and
strategic vision of the Society, and endeavor to fulfill the annual objectives
as set by the Council Chairman
- Be independent of conflicts of interest or
loyalty in any matters on which they make recommendations for action to Council
- Actively participate in Committee business, and
regard their involvement in ISTH activities as a high priority
How to join a
Committee:
If you would like to be considered for membership on any of the
above listed committees, please send the following information to ISTH
Headquarters c/o Ms. Lacey Schmeidler, Program Coordinator by May 23:
- Indication of the committee(s) you would be
interested in serving on
- Brief explanation of why you are interested in
(a) particular committee (s) and how you would envision to contribute to the
success of the specific committee(s) and the Society in general
- Description of any relevant background or
experience you have in a given committee’s subject area
- Short bio or CV (maximum 1 page)
Expressions of interest from all regions of the world and
all age groups are welcome and will be carefully considered as the committee
chairpersons will attempt to arrive at a committee composition that is diverse
and encompassing of the global nature of our Society.
Please note that if appointed to serve on a committee, new
committee members may be expected to attend their first committee meeting
during the SSC 2014 meeting in Milwaukee.
We expect that we will receive many more expressions of
interest than there are slots for each committee, and committee chairs will
extend invitations based on their best judgment regarding the needs of their
committee and balancing representation of various constituencies.
We will respond to all members
who have expressed interest by late June. If you have questions about the
process, please contact Ms. Lacey Schmeidler.
