Emmanuel Favaloro

Dr Emmanuel J Favaloro is a Principal Hospital Scientist, and in charge of the Haemostasis laboratories at the Institute of Clinical Pathology and Medical Research (ICPMR), located at Westmead Hospital, and part of NSW Health Pathology.  He is a founding member of the Sydney Centres for Thrombosis and Haemostasis, and has (co-)authored well over 500 papers and presented at numerous national and international meetings. He is the Editor in Chief of Seminars in Thrombosis & Hemostasis, and a member of the editorial/advisory boards of 7 other international journals, including JTH and Haemophilia. He is a current or past member of several ISTH SSCs and Working Parties and a past member of several CLSI-guideline working groups. His primary interest is laboratory testing and diagnosis related to bleeding and thrombosis, particularly in developing and evaluating new or improved diagnostics.

Paula James

A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan (MD, 1996), Dr. James is a full Professor in the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University. She holds cross-appointments to the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine and Pediatrics.  She is the Medical Director of the Inherited Bleeding Disorders Clinic of Southeastern Ontario and its aligned Women and Bleeding Disorders Clinic. Dr. James is a Clinician Scientist with an active research program focused on the molecular genetic basis of inherited bleeding disorders and the clinical impact of these conditions.  She has published >100 papers in her field and held multiple national and international leadership roles including Co-chair of the Scientific Planning Committee for HTRS 2019, Co-chair of the VWF ISTH SSC from 2010 – 2014 and Clinical Co-chair of the ASH VWD Guideline Diagnosis panel.

Michelle Sholzberg

Dr. Michelle Sholzberg received her MDCM and residency training in Internal Medicine at McGill University and she completed additional postgraduate training in Hematology at the University of Toronto. She has also completed a research hemostasis fellowship in Toronto. Dr. Sholzberg has a Master of Science from the University of Toronto in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research. She is a clinical hematologist with a focus on bleeding and is the Medical Director of the Coagulation Laboratory at St. Michael’s Hospital. She is also the Co-Director of the Hematology-Oncology Clinical Research Group and of the Hematology-Immunology Translational Research Theme. Her research interests include inherited and acquired disorders of hemostasis. Currently, she is involved in the study of: prediction tools for perioperative bleeding, the appropriateness of coagulation testing and new treatments for immune thrombocytopenia.
