  • To understand the role of venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk assessment
  • To appropriately identify patients who require VTE risk assessment
  • To review the available VTE risk assessment models, with a focus on the VTE prevention approach in England

Sabine Eichinger "VTE recurrence"

  • Identify risk factors of recurrent deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism
  • Estimate the recurrence risk in a patient after a deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism     
  • Determine the optimal duration of anticoagulation in such patients

Lara Roberts

Dr Lara Roberts is a Consultant Haematologist and clinical lead for venous thromboembolism at King’s Thrombosis Centre, King’s College Hospital. She is the non-malignant haematology speciality lead for the South London Clinical Research Network. Her clinical and research interests include prevention and management of venous thromboembolism, anticoagulation, thrombophilia, acquired bleeding states and post-thrombotic syndrome. Dr Roberts co-authored the national e-learning tool for VTE prevention in secondary care in England. 

Sabine Eichigner

Medical University of Vienna

Dr. Eichinger is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria. She received her training at the Medical University of Vienna and at the Harvard Medical School in Boston. Dr. Eichinger is past-chairman of the Scientific and Standardizing Committee of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis and associate editor of the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis. She is board member of the European Hematology Association. Dr. Eichinger received several prestigious academic awards and authored numerous top-ranked scientific articles.
