The Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) Editors Pieter Reitsma and Frits Rosendaal highlighted three articles in the upcoming November issue. From the editors:

This month's review article by Greinacher and colleagues is on autoimmune heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. Besides what the name suggests, this immunological disorder leads to thrombocytopenia in patients who were not exposed to heparin, and the responsible antibodies do activate platelets in the absence of heparin.

We also would like to highlight an article by Halton and colleagues that reports a phase II study of dabigatran in children with venous thrombosis. The results of this study will help to make treatment of children with synthetic direct oral anticoagulants safer.

Finally, Gleeson and colleagues address the cytoprotective effects of protease activated receptor I using an original protein C-factor VII chimeric protein.
