CHAPEL HILL, NC, USA, January 5, 2018The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), the leading international society for thrombosis and hemostasis professionals, today announced David Lillicrap, M.D. and James H. Morrissey, Ph.D., as the new editors-in-chief for its flagship scientific journal, the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH). Beginning in January 2019, they will serve a four-year term with the possibility of a two-year term extension.

“Being appointed editor-in-chief along with Jim Morrissey is a great honor,” said Lillicrap. “We look forward to building upon the legacy of JTH and to working with the ISTH and Wiley teams to expand the role the journal plays in publishing significant science and research to advance the thrombosis and hemostasis field.”

Morrissey added, “Our combined goal is to enhance the look and brand of JTH and to contribute to its continued success in today’s rapidly changing scientific—and publishing—world.”

Lillicrap is a professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at Queen's University in Kingston, Canada. Since 2000, he has been the recipient of a Canada Research Chair in Molecular Hemostasis. Lillicrap is a longstanding member of the ISTH, serves as a member of the ISTH Council and is a past chair of the Society’s Scientific and Standardization Committee (SSC). He is also a past member of the National Hemophilia Foundation’s Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee and is a member of the Medical Advisory Board of the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH). Lillicrap served as an associate editor of the journal Blood and is a member of the editorial board of the British Journal of Haematology. His research program relates to molecular aspects of the hemostatic system with particular emphasis on novel therapeutic approaches and immunological complications of hemophilia A, and the genetics, biology and pathobiology of von Willebrand Factor.

Morrissey is a professor in the Departments of Biological Chemistry and Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. He is a longstanding member of the ISTH and serves as a member of the ISTH Council. Morrissey is an associate editor of the JTH; serves on the board of consulting editors for the Journal of Clinical Investigation; and has served as a section editor for Thrombosis and Haemostasis and as a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Biological Chemistry and Blood. His research focuses on biochemical mechanisms by which the blood clotting system is triggered, with a particular emphasis on protein-membrane interactions in clotting and on his laboratory’s recent discover of platelet polyphosphate as a novel modulator of hemostasis, thrombosis and inflammation.

JTH is internationally regarded as the leading and most prestigious scientific journal in the field of thrombosis, hemostasis, and vascular biology. With an Impact Factor of 5.287 and an acceptance rate of 29 percent, JTH is a highly competitive scientific journal.

Through the diffusion and exchange of information and ideas within the international research community, JTH strives to advance science and provide the most cutting-edge leadership and research,” said Ingrid Pabinger, ISTH Chairman of Council. “The new JTH editors - together with their editorial team - will provide vision, leadership, energy and scientific gravitas to help shape the future of the field and lead JTH and Society to even greater heights.”

Lillicrap and Morrissey follow the notable leadership of the current JTH Editors-in-Chief Frits R. Rosendaal, M.D., Ph.D., professor of Clinical Epidemiology at the Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands, where he chairs the department of Clinical Epidemiology and Pieter H. Reitsma, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Thrombosis and Haemostasis at Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands. Their editorship ends at the end of this year.
