Marc Carrier Named Next SSC Chairman-Elect

The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) announced the election of Marc Carrier, M.D., M.Sc., FRCPC, as the next Scientific and Standardization Committee (SSC) Chairman-Elect. He will serve as Chairman-Elect for 2018-2020 alongside SSC Chairman Nicola Mutch. Carrier will serve as SSC Chairman for the 2020-2022 term.

Carrier is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medicine and Senior Scientist in the Clinical Epidemiology Program of The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He holds a Tier 2 Research Chair in Venous Thromboembolism and Cancer from the University of Ottawa.

Carrier has served the ISTH in several other roles including as a current Associate Editor of the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) and as current chair of the SSC Subcommittee on Hemostasis and Malignancy

In his vision statement, Carrier wrote, "As the Chairman-Elect, I would work to ensure that the SSC continues to foster strong international collaboration among leading scientists to generate well-balanced clinical guidance documents and standardized basic science tools and research methods to advance practice related to haemostasis/thrombosis and their underlying vascular biology."

Carrier's term as Chairman-Elect will begin at the conclusion of the ISTH SSC 2018 meeting in July.
