The SSC Subcommittee on Factor XI and the Contact System is seeking a consensus definition of the nomenclature of the contact factors (factor XI, prekallikrein, high molecular weight kininogen and factor XII).

In the literature, many variations are used for the abbreviations of the nomenclature of the contact factors. This field is undergoing a number of changes with the recognition of novels forms of these proteins. The subcommittee would like to propose a consensus definition of the abbreviations for the zymogen proteins, their enzymatic forms, and the field’s cofactor and its activated form.

This consensus will be presented, discussed, and hopefully approved at our subcommittee meeting in Dublin. Click here for the nomenclature consensus.

Upon your review of this project, you are welcome to provide your comments on the nomenclature consensus at the Subcommittee’s meeting in Dublin or via email to Joost Meijers.
