CHAPEL HILL, NC, USA, January 4, 2019- The Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) rings in the new year with an updated cover and new editorship as David Lillicrap, M.D., and James (Jim) Morrissey, Ph.D., assume their roles as editors-in-chief of the flagship journal of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH). Starting January 1, 2019, Lillicrap and Morrissey will serve a four-year term with the option for a two-year extension.

ISTH publications including JTH and Research and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis (RPTH) are the premier scientific journals in thrombosis, hemostasis and vascular biology. With an impact factor of 4.89, JTH ranks seventh out of 65 by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) Journal Citation Reports for peripheral vascular disease. The new editors look to build upon the JTH brand with ground breaking scientific research, commentaries, innovative features, easier submission requirements and improved author services beginning with this month’s issue celebrating the 50th anniversary of the ISTH.

“Serving as editor-in-chief along with Jim Morrissey is a great honor,” said Lillicrap. “We look forward to building upon the legacy of JTH and working with the ISTH and Wiley teams to expand the role the journal plays in publishing significant science and research to advance the thrombosis and hemostasis field.”

Morrissey added, “As we move forward in 2019, we would like to recognize the six-year commitment of the journal’s previous editors Frits Rosendaal and Pieter Reitsma. Through their leadership and significant contributions, JTH has offered the thrombosis and hemostasis community a comprehensive scientific resource. As we take the helm, we look forward to contributing to its continued success in today’s rapidly changing scientific and publishing world.”

Lillicrap is a professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada. He has previously worked in an editorial role for the British Journal of Haemotology and Blood. Lillicrap has been the Canada Research Chair in Molecular Hemostasis since 2000 and is a member of the Medical Advisory Board of the World Federation of Hemophilia. He was previously a member of the National Hemophilia Foundation’s Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee. Lillicrap is also a longstanding member of the ISTH and is a past chair of its Scientific and Standardization Committee. His research program works with the molecular aspects of the hemostatic system with a particular emphasis on new therapeutic approaches and immunological complications of hemophilia A, and the genetics, biology and pathobiology of von Willebrand factor.

Morrissey is a professor in the Departments of Biological Chemistry and Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. Before starting as the editor-in-chief, he served as an associate editor of JTH, and worked in an editorial role for the Journal of Clinical Investigation, Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Blood and the Journal of Biological Chemistry. Morrissey is also a longstanding member of the ISTH and serves on the ISTH Council. His research focuses on the biochemical mechanisms that trigger blood clotting systems, with an emphasis on protein-membrane interactions in clotting and on his laboratory’s discovery of platelet polyphosphates as a novel modulator of hemostasis, thrombosis and inflammation.

“This is an exciting time at the ISTH and for JTH, scientific publishing and for the advancement of thrombosis and hemostasis research,” said Claire McLintock, ISTH President. “Building upon the legacy and reputation carefully nurtured for years, both David and Jim – together with their editorial team from around the world – offer enormous experience and significant knowledge to elevate the journal to even greater heights.”

Lillicrap and Morrissey succeed Rosendaal and Reitsma after their own distinguished term leading the journal. Reitsma is a professor in the Department of Thrombosis and Haemostasis at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands. Rosendaal is a professor of clinical epidemiology and chair of the Department of Clinical Epidemiology at Leiden University Medical Center.
