New ISTH REDCap Survey Seeks Input on VTE Prophylaxis in Foot and Ankle Procedures

Participate in the new ISTH REDCap survey on VTE prophylaxis in foot and ankle procedures.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is the leading cause of preventable hospital-related death, with most symptomatic VTEs occurring after hospital discharge.  Among surgical patients, the risk of VTE after foot and ankle surgery is low and the current guidelines do not recommend thromboprophylaxis in this setting. However, in clinical practice, surgeons do prescribe thromboprophylaxis mostly to those who are perceived to be at high risk for VTE. A questionnaire was developed to understand how foot and ankle surgeons decide to prescribe thromprophylaxis in this setting, whether they use risk assessment tool, the type of prophylaxis used, duration of thromboprophylaxis, etc.

The Brazilian Foot Society (ABTPé) and the Latin American Federation of Foot and Ankle Societies (FLAMeCIPP) have already approved the distribution of the survey to all their members and are working with us to involve other continental societies. This survey will provide insight into current clinical practices in foot and ankle surgery worldwide and guide new research in the field.

Participate here.

I am glad to say that the Asian Federation of Foot and Ankle Societies (AFFAS) and the European Foot and Ankle Society (EFAS) had also joined the project and will send the questionnaire to their members.
