CHAPEL HILL, N.C., USA, (March 5, 2020) — The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) announces the addition of business development professional Lucia Tejada, Ph.D., as the new director of industry relations and business development. Tejada’s primary responsibility is to develop and strengthen the Society’s relationships with companies that value its mission and wish to invest in the future of the field.

Tejada is a neuroscientist turned business development executive with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion to serve others. Previously the director of development and strategic partnerships at the Endocrine Society, she has worked in healthcare both as a doctoral researcher and as an executive with a commitment to cultivating growth, fundraising and launching mission-driven initiatives that aim to further the professional development of the next generation of scientists and clinicians. Tejada received a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Virginia, where she conducted research in the field of behavioral neuroendocrinology.

"I am honored to join the ISTH and serve the needs of its physician and basic science members around the globe,” says Tejada. “As a scientist and business development executive, I am most excited to develop partnerships that will support the fields of thrombosis and hemostasis as well as the ISTH in its exciting next phase of growth and expansion."

Founded in 1969, the ISTH is the leading worldwide not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing the understanding, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of thrombotic and bleeding disorders. An international professional membership organization with more than 5,000 clinicians, researchers and educators, the ISTH offers a platform for engagement and education to ultimately improve the lives of patients around the world. To support this important work, Tejada will build strategic alliances and collaborations to financially support the Society’s congresses, meetings, educational initiatives and standardization programs, research activities and the World Thrombosis Day campaign.

“We are delighted to have Lucia join and further strengthen the ISTH team as the organization moves into this next and exciting stage of our development,” said Thomas Reiser, executive director of the ISTH. “Lucia’s exceptional expertise and experience will be an enormous asset to our Society and will allow us to more proactively pursue opportunities that will benefit the ISTH and the wider field of thrombosis and hemostasis globally.”
