Become Involved in the Society: Volunteeer to Serve on an ISTH Commitee

The ISTH invites all members to join one of the ISTH committees and participate in advancing many new and exciting programs and activities. Become a member of an ISTH committee and contribute to the global advancement of thrombosis and hemostasis and help build upon the success and impact of the ISTH. 

Becoming involved in an ISTH committee offers the opportunity to:

  • gain insight into the operations of a major international professional society
  • connect and collaborate with peers globally, many of whom are also leading members in the field
  • be recognized for your contributions
  • expand your own personal and professional horizons


ISTH is seeking volunteers that are:

  • Highly motivated to actively contribute to the pursuit of the mission, success and impact of ISTH
  • Have skills and experience that would allow you to immediately and actively contribute as a committee member
  • Prepared to make the commitment to be involved in ongoing and ad hoc projects (as decided by the committee)
  • Willing to dedicate at least 1 hour per week to the affairs of the ISTH
  • Willing to participate in conference calls and to make time in your schedule during ISTH’s annual meetings to attend a committee meeting
  • Dedicated to champion causes that promote the field of thrombosis and hemostasis
  • Bring your personal and professional connections to advance ISTH’s objectives


All active and current members of the Society are eligible, and the ISTH appreciates involvement in one of the ISTH committees. The following committees will be accepting new members:

  • Early Career: Engages early career professionals in the Society and fosters this community in the broader thrombosis and hemostasis field. Interested candidates must be a member of the Society in one of the early career membership categories (Student/Trainee, Medical Resident/Post Doc, or Associate) at the time of onboarding.
  • Education: Oversees all matters of training, education and professional skills development globally and outreach to regions where the Society is less well known. The Committee encompasses three distinct subcommittees: Live Courses, Media-based Learning, and Training.
  • Ethics: Concerns itself with the principles, values and rules of conduct related to how the Society operates.
  • Finance: Responsible for ISTH financial resources, investments and financial policies and practices.
  • Governance: Ensures that the Society has the appropriate and most conducive legal and governing framework and systems for an effective and efficient operation.
  • Guidance & Guidelines: Oversees and promotes the Society’s guidance and guidelines processes.
  • Lectures & Awards: Administers the most important Society awards to recognize excellence in the thrombosis and hemostasis community.
  • Membership & Communications: Responsible for effective external communications, membership growth, retention and benefits.
  • Nominating: Oversees the process by which the ISTH elects or appoints its leadership.
  • Nurses: Engages the global thrombosis and hemostasis nurses community by sharing knowledge, experience, practice standards and guidelines. Interested candidates must be a member of the Society in the Nurse category.
  • Publications: Oversees and advises on ISTH publications in support of the editorial teams.

Please note that members are permitted to choose two committees of interest. Each committee will have a separate series of questions as part of the application. Not yet a member of ISTH? Join here.

Expressions of interest from all regions of the world and all age groups are welcome and encouraged and will be carefully considered to constitute committees that are effective, efficient and diverse, reflecting the global nature of the ISTH. The deadline for expression has been extended through April 15, 2020.
