Official ISTH Highlights of the 2019 Congress: November 9-10, 2019, in Philadelphia

You're invited to Philadelphia, PA, USA for the Official Highlights of the ISTH 2019 Congress at the Bellevue Hotel. This meeting is intended for clinicians who were unable to attend the recent ISTH 2019 Congress in Melbourne, Australia and would like an update on the latest science in thrombosis and hemostasis as presented at the congress. Specific audiences include:

  • Hematologists who will benefit from an overview of the latest changes in bleeding disorders including hemophilia and thrombotic disorders and the latest treatment advice for the use of DOACs.
  • Neurologists can benefit from understanding how the novel oral anticoagulants can help prevent thrombotic stroke leading to brain injury.
  • Cardiologists who will benefit from understanding how various antithrombotic strategies can benefit patients with arterial disease or atrial fibrillation. 
  • Obstetricians who will benefit from understanding which new therapies are the most effective and safest for pregnant patients. 
  • Pediatricians who will benefit from understanding how von Willebrand disease and thrombocytopenia differ in their presentation in children vs adults.
  • Trauma specialists who will benefit from understanding how stored blood products can be used to treat massively injured patients. 


Learning Objectives: 

By attending this event, participants will:

  1. DISCUSS coagulation mechanisms, and how dysregulation of coagulation can lead to either bleeding or thrombosis.
  2. EXPLAIN the role of protein deficiencies or defects in platelet function on bleeding, and how to treat such bleeding with either traditional or newly developed therapeutics.
  3. ELABORATE on the interaction of coagulation factors, platelets, and the vessel wall, and how conditions, such as advanced age, cancer, or pregnancy, alter these interactions to promote thrombosis.
  4. LIST different treatment strategies for thrombosis and how the efficacy of these strategies differs in various clinical settings.

After attending the event, Participants will use their increased understanding of treatments and new therapeutics to improve medical care for patients with either bleeding or thrombosis.
