Regional Training Center - India

About

The Regional Training Center (RTC) program is funded by the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), which enables long-term partnerships between emerging centers in economically developing countries and mentoring centers in the high-income countries.

Through this program, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India is an emerging center collaborating with the Institute of Experimental Hematology and Transfusion Medicine in Bonn, Germany as a mentor center.

Aim

To collaborate with Institute of Experimental Hematology and Transfusion medicine, University Clinic of Bonn in Germany with respect to the following points:

  • To gain expertise in state of the art hematological assays and genetic screening techniques and facilitate the transfer of technology and expertise to the emerging centre.
  • In vitro gene expression analysis for hemophilia and rare bleeding disorders (FV VII, FX and FXIII, deficiency) to study causality for implicated pathological protein variants in these disorders.
  • In silico structural analysis including protein modelling and molecular dynamic simulation towards establishing structure functional correlations in coagulation and coagulation related proteins.
  • To conduct National workshops/CME to impart knowledge/train hematologists in India for the above

The six-years program will include training professionals involved in the Thrombosis and Hemostasis field, enabling the exchange of students and teachers among the institutions involved, develop educational courses, internships and partnerships in research projects.

The program has three levels of two years of collaboration, progress and advancement. To advance to the next level, the center in training must send an annual report to ISTH, detailing activities and programs in progress. After successfully completing the 6-years’ program, the developing center will be classified by the ISTH as a "Regional Training Center", being able to act as a mentor for other emerging centers and region.

The Institute for Experimental Hematology and Transfusion Medicine supplies the entire University Hospital Bonn and several hospitals in the region. It is an institute of maximum care with a very wide range of services, in particular Transfusion medicine with hemotherapy with a special focus on hemostaseology.

All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) was established to develop patterns of teaching in Undergraduate and Post-graduate Medical Education in all its branches so as to demonstrate a high standard of Medical Education in India; to bring together in one place educational facilities of the highest order for the training of personnel in all important branches of health activity; and to attain self-sufficiency in Post-graduate Medical Education.

The Institute has comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient-care. As provided in the Act, AIIMS conducts teaching programs in medical and para-medical courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and awards its own degrees. Teaching and research are conducted in 42 disciplines. In the field of medical research AIIMS is the lead, having more than 600 research publications by its faculty and researchers in a year. AIIMS also runs a College of Nursing and trains students for B.Sc.(Hons.) Nursing post-certificate) degrees.
