New Peer-Reviewed Open Access Journal, Research and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Now Open for Submissions

The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) is excited to announce the launch of its new open access journal, Research and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis (RPTH).

As part of its core mission, the ISTH is dedicated to transformative scientific discoveries and clinical practices, the development of young professionals and the education of physicians, scientists and allied health professionals wherever they may live. Today’s ever-evolving publishing landscape demands for increased global access and more opportunities to rapidly consume knowledge and scientific results. As we enter a new area of scientific discovery and knowledge dissemination, RPTH is an exciting medium for rigorous yet rapid peer review and immediate dissemination of research. As an open access and online-only publication, RPTH will serve as a catalyst for global discussion and connect scientists and clinicians with the non-scientist public to discuss the latest findings and research in the field.

Complementing the Society’s flagship journal, the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH), RPTH will provide an innovative new open access platform for science and discourse among researchers, clinicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and patients. Published in partnership with Wiley, RPTH is interested in basic, clinical, translational and population or public health research.

Mary Cushman, M.D., M.Sc., professor of medicine at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, and director of the thrombosis and hemostasis program at the University of Vermont Medical Center in the United States, will lead the launch of the journal as its inaugural Editor-in-Chief. The editorial team working with Dr. Cushman represents all areas of the world and includes: Pantep Angchaisuksiri (Thailand), Cihan Ay (Austria), Suzanne Cannegieter (The Netherlands), Adam Cuker (USA), Susan Kahn (Canada), Fiona Newell (Australia), Yotis Senis (UK) and Alisa Wolberg (USA).

The inaugural issue of the journal will be published in conjunction with the meeting of the ISTH 2017 Congress in Berlin, Germany, July 8-13. Visit the RPTH homepage to learn more and follow RPTH on Twitter @RPTHJournal.

Call for Submissions to RPTH Now Open

ISTH members will receive a significant discount on the standard publication fee for future issues of RPTH. The fee is $1,500 USD for ISTH members and $0-$1,000 USD for authors from ISTH Reach-the-World countries. The publication fee for non-members is $2,000 USD. Simply enter the code: "ISTH2" during submission in order to receive this discount. Membership will be independently verified following submission.

RPTH will publish a broad array of article types covering the widest possible spectrum of topics in thrombosis, hemostasis and related areas. Studies by multidisciplinary research groups, from emerging areas of research and from under-represented regions of the world, will be of particular interest. Studies and trials covering quality of care, outcomes, dissemination and implementation science are sought, including work on novel care delivery especially in areas of resource constraint around the world. Additionally, RPTH welcomes submissions from diverse fields including general medicine, behavioral/lifestyle science, surgery, obstetrics, anesthesiology, critical care, technology application, health services, and systems of care.

Benefits of the New Open Access Format
Due to its unique format, RPTH will have the opportunity to accept articles that may not be embraced by traditional journals, such as preliminary discovery, replication, important negative studies and case reports. Reports requiring longer formats to convey their message will also be considered. If you submit a manuscript to JTH that is meritorious, but does not meet the priority for the limited space in the journal, you may be invited to transfer your manuscript to RPTH for consideration.

To facilitate dissemination of study findings, all figures will be in color and use of illustration to emphasize central findings will be encouraged and supported. Plain Language Summaries provided with each paper will catalyze communication with the general public. To promote collaboration and maximal scientific discovery, authors are encouraged to share data, materials and reagents with others.

For more information or to contact the editorial team with ideas and/or comments, visit the RPTH homepage. Submit your manuscript to RPTH and join us as we embark on a new age of knowledge dissemination and discussion.
